In Ramu, Cox`s Bazar, a young man named Saiful Islam, who is just 20 years old, was arrested while trying to smuggle drugs known as crystal meth, or "ice."
The arrest happened on Saturday evening at a checkpoint on the Teknaf-Cox`s Bazar highway.
Saiful was traveling in an auto rickshaw when officers from the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) stopped him for a search.
They found 1.25 kg of crystal meth hidden in a shopping bag he was carrying.
The drugs are worth over five crore taka, a significant amount of money.
Saiful is from Dhoyapalong village and is the son of Sirajul Haque.
After his arrest, he was taken to jail on Sunday afternoon. Officials from the BGB confirmed the details of the arrest.
The authorities acted on a tip-off and conducted the search, which led to the discovery of the drugs.
Saiful has been handed over to Ramu police, and a case has been filed against him. The BGB is working hard to combat drug trafficking in the area.
