On the occasion of the inauguration of the Agargaon to Motijheel section of the Metrorail, the streets and surroundings were crowded to attend the grand rally organized by the Awami League. Crowded temporary food stalls were set there.
On Saturday, such scenarios were seen in Motijheel, Arambagh, Shapla Chattar and Fakirapool areas.
On entering the crowded place in Motijheel area we spoke with the market seller Mansoor Mia. He told The Report, "In fact, the sales are good during rallies and gatherings, I can earn some more money."
Shamim, who sells various kinds of delicious pickles and chutneys, said, "Mixed pickles is in demand in this hot weather for the change of taste. Various kinds of pickles and chutneys are made including raw banana, amlaki, tamarind, chalta, plum."
Monir Bepari was selling pineapples in a van near Shapla Chattar in Motijheel area. A large crowd was seen in his shop eating juicy pineapples arranged there.
Monir told The Report, "People like pineapples because they are juicy and sweet. Pineapple also adds energy to the body in heat and releases fatigue. I don`t get chance to set up stall here. But, today Alhamdulillah sales are good."
We talked to water seller Imran. He said, "The weather is a bit hot. After walking in the rally, tired people buy water to quench their thirst." He also said that the sales are more than other days.
Harun Sheikh, a chicken sandwich seller, told The Report, "People can`t get food here if they get hungy. So, they eat this sandwich which is also low in price. Wherever there is a gathering, I go to sell there."
A large number of such hawkers were seen around the gathering place. Some are selling water, some are selling delicious food.
Although the rally started in the afternoon, activists continued to come to the rally venue from morning. As the day progressed, the entire area was covered with activists and banner posters.
