As the Eid festival approaches, meat prices soar in various parts of the capital, including Karwanbazar, Mirpur, Jatrabari, Shanirakhra, and Badda. Despite government efforts to regulate the market, prices continue to rise unabated.
Before Ramadan, a kilogram of broiler chicken was priced at around Tk 215, but today it commands Tk 250, marking a notable increase. Similarly, beef prices have surged from Tk 750 to Tk 800 per kilogram.
The price hike extends to other meat varieties as well. Golden chicken now sells at Tk 340 per kilogram, while cock chicken is priced at Tk 360 per kilogram. Layer chicken fetches Tk 300 per kilogram, and local chicken is available at Tk 650 to Tk 700 per kilogram.
Mutton, a popular choice for Eid feasts, typically ranges between Tk 1,000 and Tk 1,100 per kilogram. However, some vendors have raised prices to Tk 1,200, adding to the burden on consumers during the festive season.
