Sheikh Hasina, the recently ousted prime minister of Bangladesh, sought refuge in India for safety reasons on August 5 and is still residing there, as confirmed by Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for India’s Ministry of External Affairs.

During a press briefing on October 17, Jaiswal reiterated that Hasina arrived in India on short notice for her safety and continues to stay.

The same day, an arrest warrant was issued against her by the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), raising questions about potential extradition.

Hasina fled to India following her ousting on August 5.

Md Touhid Hossain, Foreign Affairs Adviser, informed the media that necessary actions would be taken in response to the ICT‍‍`s directive.

Regarding visas for Bangladeshis, Jaiswal mentioned that only limited visa services are currently available, specifically for medical and emergency purposes.

He indicated that full visa operations would resume once law and order in Bangladesh improves.

Jaiswal also urged the interim government to fulfill commitments made to protect minority communities, emphasizing the need for a safe environment.

He noted that there were reports of violence against the Hindu community and puja pandals during recent celebrations.
