It is BNP’s desire to bring back another one-eleven in this country, said Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof ASM Maksud Kamal.
He said that Awami league boycotted 1996 election keeping hope in mind of fair election. As a result, the current ruling party was elected. But now BNP is boycotting the election which is not for the people but for own.
Prof Maksud came up with these remarks while addressing as the chief guest at the advocacy campaign-organized seminar "Democracy Development and Bangladesh" on Thursday at the university`s TSC Auditorium.
He said, “Awami League will come to power by wining huge votes of the people which is their political character. But one group is busy destroying the economic self-reliance of Bangladesh.”
When it comes to diplomatic efforts, DU VC stated that foreign powers want to place someone in power who supports them not BNP. They also convinced the World Bank to stop lending money because they opposed the construction of the Padma Bridge in Bangladesh.
Dr Md Abdur Rahim, Professor of Islamic History Department of Dhaka University, read the keynote paper in the seminar while Professor Sitesh Chandra Bachar chaired the seminar adding that elections should be participatory to maintain the trend of development.
He also hoped that Awami League would be victorious again.
