Alumni of RAJUK Uttara Model College have voiced strong concern over recent incidents involving the alleged harassment and public humiliation of teachers and administrative staff, urging the college authorities to restore discipline on campus.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the former students warned that the institution`s governing body could face questions over its effectiveness if decisive steps are not taken to address the situation.
The alumni association said a growing trend of politically charged accusations and divisive rhetoric is creating unrest within the college environment. According to the statement, some teachers and officials have recently been subjected to disrespectful treatment by students, raising concerns about the overall academic atmosphere.
Referring to videos circulated on social media from an incident on June 14, the alumni claimed that several students used inappropriate language and gestures toward teachers during a confrontation involving an administrative official.
The statement alleged that some students even removed chairs from beneath teachers during the incident, describing the behaviour as a serious breakdown of discipline and respect within the institution.
The alumni body also claimed that another college official had previously been forced out after being labelled with a political affiliation. It further alleged that the president of the RAJUK College Ex-Students Association (RESA) had also faced public humiliation.
Highlighting the institution`s history, the alumni said RAJUK Uttara Model College has maintained a reputation for strict discipline and a non-political environment since its establishment in 1994. They noted that the college has traditionally been led by senior Bangladesh Army officials and has long discouraged political activities on campus.
To address the situation, the alumni proposed a series of measures, including restrictions on unauthorized video recording and live streaming within the campus, preventing internal faculty disputes from involving students, and banning political activities and provocative slogans.
They also called for rebuilding a culture of mutual respect between teachers and students and restoring the strict disciplinary standards that have long been associated with the institution.
The statement emphasized that preserving a healthy academic environment is essential for protecting the college`s reputation and ensuring a respectful atmosphere for both educators and learners.
