Several parts of Bangladesh are likely to experience rain and thunderstorms over the next 24 hours as monsoon activity remains strong across the country, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
In its latest forecast, the weather agency said light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds and lightning may occur in many areas, particularly in the northern and northeastern regions.
Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions are expected to receive rainfall at numerous locations, while scattered rain and thunderstorms may also affect parts of Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna and Barishal divisions.
The Met Office warned that some areas in Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet could experience moderately heavy to very heavy rainfall during the forecast period.
Meteorologists attributed the weather conditions to an active monsoon system over northern Bangladesh and a trough extending from Gangetic West Bengal to the northwestern Bay of Bengal, which continues to influence the country`s atmosphere.
The forecast said daytime temperatures are likely to remain largely unchanged nationwide. However, night temperatures may drop slightly in some areas.
The BMD advised people in vulnerable areas to remain cautious during thunderstorms and periods of intense rainfall.
