Maritime ports at Chattogram, Cox`s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra have been advised to maintain distant cautionary signal No 1 as a depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal and the adjoining Sri Lanka coast has intensified into a deep depression.
According to a special bulletin from the Met Office, the deep depression was centered at 9 am on Thursday about 2,035 km southwest of Chattogram port, 1,975 km southwest of Cox`s Bazar port, 1,945 km southwest of Mongla port, and 1,930 km southwest of Payra port.
The system is likely to move north-northwestwards and may intensify further.
The maximum sustained wind speed within 48 km of the deep depression’s center is around 50 kph, rising up to 60 kph in gusts or squalls. The sea is expected to remain rough near the center of the depression.
All fishing boats and trawlers in the North Bay have been advised to refrain from venturing into the deep sea until further notice.
