Majority votes were cast in favor of abortion rights activists during the midterm elections in Michigan, Vermont, California, and Kentucky, giving them major win.
Since the Supreme Court overruled Roe v. Wade in June, every state that has put abortion on the ballot has approved it, with the exception of a measure that is still pending in Montana. This includes Kansas, where voters rejected a constitutional amendment that would have weakened abortion protections in August.
Voters strongly supported proposed state charter amendments ensuring the right to an abortion in Vermont, Michigan, and California.
Voters in Kentucky, a Republican stronghold and a state that has banned abortion since a Supreme Court decision, rejected an amendment to the state constitution that would have effectively made it difficult to challenge the law.
According to a preliminary count, voters in Montana, the fifth state with an abortion measure on the ballot, likewise disapproved of the proposed legislation.
