Severe traffic congestion in Dhaka due to two political rallies

By early afternoon, traffic was nearly paralyzed across most parts of the capital, excluding parts of Mirpur and Uttara.

Dhaka experienced intense traffic congestion throughout the day, especially in key areas like Bijoy Sarani, Farmgate, and Karwan Bazar.

Vehicles remained stationary for long periods from early morning, with congestion beginning around 9:00 a.m.

According to traffic police, a large gathering in Shahbagh following the release of a political leader triggered the initial jam.

The situation worsened due to a major youth rally organized by three wings of a political party, drawing thousands of participants from nearby districts like Gazipur, Narayanganj, and Comilla.

By early afternoon, traffic was nearly paralyzed across most parts of the capital, excluding parts of Mirpur and Uttara.

Long lines of vehicles were seen even on elevated expressways, with many commuters abandoning buses to walk.

Authorities deployed senior traffic officials citywide in an effort to manage the situation, but they admitted that pressure at city entry points was unusually high. Traffic sources indicated that the congestion was likely to persist until the evening.
