Interim govt doing more damage than Awami League: Mirza Abbas

Abbas accused the authorities of widespread extortion, claiming that blame is being unjustly shifted onto the BNP.

BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas has stated that the current interim government is more harmful than the Awami League, describing it as “rotten from top to bottom.”

Speaking at a rally organized by BNP’s student, youth, and volunteer wings in Dhaka, he expressed disappointment with the government‍‍`s nine-month tenure, saying, “This government was once seen as a symbol of hope and public confidence, but all we‍‍`ve received is disregard.”

Addressing discussions around opening a humanitarian corridor in Myanmar’s Rakhine state, Abbas remarked, “There’s no need to weigh profit and loss here — we simply want to remain as we were.”

He further described the current administration as “colonial,” suggesting that many within the government are not even true citizens of the country.

Abbas accused the authorities of widespread extortion, claiming that blame is being unjustly shifted onto the BNP.

He questioned why law enforcement is not taking action against the actual perpetrators.

Arguing that only an elected government can ensure the country’s safety, he criticized the interim administration for failing to deliver on its promise of electoral reform.

“They said they would prepare for elections, but nothing has been done in the past nine months. They won’t achieve anything even in nine years,” he asserted.

Mirza Abbas urged the government to accept its failure, apologize to the public, and voluntarily step aside to make room for a proper solution.

At the same event, BNP leaders including acting chairman Tarique Rahman, Salahuddin Ahmed, and Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury demanded the immediate announcement of a roadmap for national elections.
