Ishraque urges protesters to stay on streets until student advisers resign

BNP leader Ishraque Hossain has urged the BNP leaders and activists to take to the streets until LGRD and sports adviser Asif Mahmud and Information adviser Mahfuj Alam resigns from their posts.

Following the court’s dismissal of the writ petition regarding the mayoral declaration, Ishraque made a Facebook post calling his men to remain on the streets until the two student advisers resign.

In his post, he wrote:

"To my protesting brothers — don’t be fooled by empty gestures. Donkeys might be lured with carrots, but not us. The fight continues until we hear the news of the two student representatives stepping down. Don’t leave the streets — rather, expand the movement."

Earlier on Thursday, the High Court bench comprising Justice Md. Akram Hossain Chowdhury and Justice Debashish Roy Chowdhury dismissed the writ petition challenging Ishraq‍‍`s mayoral declaration.

The court delivered the order with observations and directions. Advocate Kaiser Kamal, who opposed the writ during the hearing, confirmed the verdict after the session.

Ishraq Hossain’s supporters have been protesting for eight consecutive days, demanding he be sworn in as the Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation.

Amid this, a writ petition was filed in the High Court seeking an injunction on administering the oath. With the court now dismissing the petition, there is no legal bar to Ishraq taking the oath as mayor, as confirmed by the High Court.
