At least 24 killed as India-Pakistan tensions escalate

Smoke billows after an artillery shell landed in the main town close to the de facto border with Pakistan.

Escalating hostilities between India and Pakistan turned deadly on Wednesday, with Indian forces striking nine locations across Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, resulting in at least eight fatalities.

In response, Pakistan has claimed that its military shot down five Indian fighter jets—specifically, three Rafale jets, one Sukhoi Su-30, and one MiG-29—and destroyed an Indian drone . India has not confirmed these claims but has reported that three of its aircraft crashed in Indian-administered Kashmir .

Meanwhile, the Indian military reported that three civilians were killed overnight due to artillery shelling by Pakistan’s army along the Line of Control (LoC), the de facto border in the disputed Kashmir region.

The situation remains volatile, with cross-border artillery fire resulting in additional casualties on both sides.

International leaders, including those from the UN, US, UK, and China, have called for restraint to prevent further escalation between these nuclear-armed neighbors .
