Actor-turned-politician Vijay is poised for a significant victory in the Tamil Nadu Assembly Election 2026. His newly formed party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), is leading in over 100 seats, while the AIADMK-led alliance is ahead in more than 71 seats. The ruling DMK, in alliance with the Congress and DMDK, is in third place with leads in over 50 seats, reports NDTV.

In West Bengal, where voting took place for 294 assembly seats, the contest is primarily between the Trinamool Congress (TMC) led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). According to current trends, the BJP has crossed the halfway mark and is leading in 201 seats, while Mamata Banerjee’s TMC is leading in over 85 seats.

The election is significant for two main reasons: first, West Bengal has historically resisted the BJP’s rise in the state. Second, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has strongly opposed the Election Commission over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) voter roll cleanup exercise, which removed 89 lakh voters—around 11.6 per cent of the state’s electorate. This figure is slightly higher than the Trinamool Congress’s winning margin in the 2021 election.
