In response to the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives, India has enforced a complete ban on the direct and indirect import of all goods from Pakistan. The move comes after authorities in New Delhi cited evidence of “cross-border linkages” to the attack.

According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry on May 2, the country’s Foreign Trade Policy has been amended to prohibit “direct or indirect import or transit of all goods originating in or exported from Pakistan,” citing national security and public interest concerns. The ban will remain effective until further notice, as reported by PTI.

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), which regulates India’s external trade, stated that any exception to this ban would require direct approval from the central government.

This measure is part of a broader strategy by India to intensify pressure on Pakistan, including steps to curtail financial links, following the deadly April 22 attack.
