The Bangladesh Coast Guard has recovered around 4,000 litres of illegal fuel oil during a nighttime operation in Daulatkhan upazila of Bhola.
Officials said the drive was carried out in the Meghna River near the Chokighat area following a tip-off.
A patrol team intercepted a trawler and found the fuel onboard. However, those on the vessel fled the scene before they could be detained.
Lt Commander Sabbir Alam Suzan confirmed the seizure.
Authorities later conducted a mobile court, where the recovered fuel was sold at market price and the proceeds were deposited into the government treasury.
Officials said such operations will continue to curb illegal fuel trade in the region.
