The court has ordered the remand of five individuals, including former ICT State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak, in connection with a murder case related to the July uprising.
This decision was made by Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Awlad Hossain Muhammad Jonayed on Wednesday after a hearing.
According to Public Prosecutor Omar Faruk Faruki, the court granted Zunaid Ahmed Palak, the former ICT State Minister, a three-day remand in the murder case filed at the Dhanmondi Police Station.
In the same case, four-day remands were granted to Siam Rahman, the Central Organizing Secretary of the banned Chhatra League, and Anwar Hossain Nayeem.
In another development, former MP Soleman Selim was placed on a three-day remand in a separate murder case filed at Lalbagh Police Station.
Meanwhile, Jyoti, the son of former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, was also granted a three-day remand in connection with an attempted murder case at Dhanmondi Police Station.
Other arrests were made as well. Former Secretary Mohibul Haque was arrested in connection with a murder case at Dhanmondi Police Station.
In addition, former Mayor Atiqul Islam and businessman Salman F Rahman were arrested in a separate murder case related to Vatara Police Station.
The accused were presented in court earlier that day. The investigating officer requested a five-day remand for each individual.
Public Prosecutor Faruk Faruki argued in favor of the remands, while the defense lawyers sought bail and requested the cancellation of the remand orders.
After hearing both sides, the court rejected the bail requests and ordered the remand for all the accused.
The case has drawn significant attention, especially as it involves several high-profile individuals with political connections.
The legal proceedings will be closely followed as the investigation continues.
