Justice Md Abdul Mannan has not been assigned to any bench following a recent reconstitution of the High Court Division, effectively leaving him out of judicial proceedings.
Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury formed 63 benches for the High Court with effect from April 19, but Justice Mannan’s name was not included, according to an official at the Supreme Court registrar general’s office.
No official explanation has been provided for the decision.
Sources indicated the move may be linked to a video circulated on social media, which allegedly shows the judge behaving inappropriately at a programme in Cumilla earlier this month.
Attempts to reach Registrar General Mohammad Habibur Rahman for comment were unsuccessful, while Attorney General Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal said he was not aware of the matter.
According to reports, the incident took place at an event on April 3, where the judge allegedly engaged in a verbal altercation and referenced his judicial position.
Justice Mannan joined the judiciary in 1994 through the Bangladesh Civil Service and was appointed as an additional High Court judge in October 2024 before being confirmed in the role.
