Unnatural death of prisoners follow upward trend

The tally of prisoners’ death has suddenly increased, as per recent reports. 

In the eight months of 2023, around 57 inmates reported died while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. But last year, 65 people died in the prisons of eight divisions of the country in 12 months. 

Among the deceased, 26 prisoners were serving different sentences while 31 were kept in jail at the order of the court who were either in remand or waiting for verdict.

So the death toll of who are undergoing through trial, is higher than that of those who are serving different terms of punishment after verdict.
