As Eid-ul-Azha approaches, thousands of sacrificial animals are being brought into Dhaka city. Ensuring their proper care is crucial for both animal welfare and public health.

Proper care of sacrificial animals reflects religious responsibility and civic sense, ensuring a safe and respectful Eid celebration for all.

Here are five basic tips you can follow to take care of your sacrificial cattle:

Shelter & Space:

Provide a shaded, well-ventilated, and secure area to protect animals from extreme heat and rain. Avoid keeping them directly on concrete; instead, use straw, sand, or sawdust for comfort and hygiene.

Feeding & Watering:

Feed animals a balanced diet of grass, hay, bran, and clean water at least twice daily. Avoid sudden changes in diet or overfeeding. Always provide clean, fresh water, especially during hot days.

Cleanliness & Waste Management:

Clean the animal’s resting area regularly to prevent disease and odor. Dispose of waste in designated municipal bins. Keep a bucket of disinfectant handy and spray the area regularly to reduce flies and germs.

Health Monitoring:

Check for signs of illness such as lack of appetite, unusual discharge, or lethargy. If detected, consult a veterinarian immediately. Many city authorities and NGOs provide mobile vet services during Eid season.

Public Safety & Regulations:

Avoid keeping animals on roads or public walkways. Use rope or temporary fencing to ensure they do not stray. Follow city corporation guidelines regarding animal housing and waste disposal.

Proper care of sacrificial animals reflects religious responsibility and civic sense, ensuring a safe and respectful Eid celebration for all.
