Home Affairs Adviser Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has stated that all individuals involved in the brutal killing of Lal Chand Sohag, a scrap trader murdered in front of Mitford Hospital in Dhaka, have been brought under the law. So far, five suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident.
The adviser made these remarks while briefing reporters on Saturday afternoon following an inspection of the Dhaka District Police Lines, Range Reserve Force (RRF), and the Traffic and Driving School (TDS) at the Mill Barrack compound in Old Dhaka.
“This kind of tragic event, like the one at Mitford, is deeply unfortunate. Incidents like this should never happen in a civilized society,” he said, adding that police across the country are taking swift action in such cases.
According to Jahangir Alam, two individuals were arrested from the crime scene on the evening of the incident. Later, two more were apprehended by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) along with weapons, and a fifth suspect was arrested the same night.
He urged the public not to take the law into their own hands and to inform law enforcement authorities if any incident occurs. He reiterated that law enforcement agencies are taking active measures in response to all such cases.
On Wednesday evening, Lal Chand Sohag was brutally murdered in public on a busy road in front of Mitford Hospital (Sir Salimullah Medical College).
CCTV footage, eyewitness accounts, and the first information report (FIR) reveal that he was beaten with bricks and stones until his body was severely mutilated. He was then stripped and stomped upon by several attackers.
Also present during the briefing were Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam, Special Branch Chief and Additional IGP Md Golam Rasul, and DIG of Dhaka Range Rezaul Karim Mallick, among others.
