The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched a raid at Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) headquarters following allegations of large-scale irregularities and misappropriation of fuel expenses during a 40-day closure of the office.
The shutdown occurred as protests demanding the swearing-in of BNP leader Ishraque Hossain as mayor brought DSCC activities to a halt. Despite the suspension of official work, fuel expenditure records showed more than Tk 1 crore spent during the period.
An ACC enforcement team carried out the operation at the DSCC building on Sunday morning (September 7), confirmed ACC Deputy Director Md Akhtarul Islam.
According to complaints, even though officers were not attending office during the closure, fuel consumption of 14–15 liters per day was logged against their allocated vehicles.
DSCC records show the corporation spends around Tk 5 crore monthly on fuel. However, in May and June—when office activities were suspended—the accounts reflected the same level of fuel usage as in normal times, despite little to no official activity taking place.
