Activists of the ruling Awami League and its associate organisations occupied different streets in Bangladesh capital Dhaka on Saturday while the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party had been holding its Dhaka divisional mass rally at city’s Golapbagh field.
Several party leaders had earlier announced to remain on city roads to resist any kind of destructive acts of the BNP during its Dhaka rally.
The AL and its front organisation leaders and activists occupied roads at different points by setting temporary sheds and organising small gatherings as well as bringing out processions chanting slogans against the opposition BNP.
Some of them carried sticks in their hands.
Bangladesh Juba League brought out a procession at the party’s central office in Gulistan.
Activists of Dhaka University unit of the Bangladesh Chhatra League were checking vehicles at the entry point of the DU at Kataban.
They also staged showdown by motorbike and the motorcycle procession paraded almost all the roads on the campus.
They also held a rally in the morning at the central Shaheed Minar condemning ‘violence created by the BNP’.
Besides, ruling party members checked belongings of commuters and asked personal questions at different entry and exit points of the city.
At Matijheel, a good number of activists of AL’s associate organisations were seen guarding the road in front of the Bangladesh Bank by holding cricket stumps.
The AL activists also took position on almost all areas including Aminbazar, Gabtali, Mirpur-1, Mirpur 10 and 14, Jatrabari and Panthapath in the city.
