DMP settles over 5,000 cases in April

Dhaka Metropolitan Police special metropolitan magistrates disposed of more than 5,000 criminal cases through summary trials in April, officials said.

According to DMP Law Officer Mohammad Ataul Haque, a total of 5,205 criminal cases were settled across different divisions of the capital during the month.

Police said over 10,000 accused were arrested in connection with the cases, while nearly 5,900 people received jail sentences.

Authorities also collected fines worth more than Tk 38 lakh and recovered additional money through auctions and confiscations.

Officials said 57 joint special drives were carried out in April to maintain law and order in Dhaka.

Meanwhile, police filed 1,470 cases under the Road Transport Act for traffic rule violations.

Among those, 302 traffic cases were resolved, involving more than 1,200 accused. 

Authorities collected fines and sentenced two people to imprisonment.

DMP officials said the operations are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen law enforcement and improve discipline in the capital.
