Fire breaks out in New Market, 26 fire fighting units working

A massive fire has broken out on the third floor of the New Super Market in the New Market area of the capital during the dawn of Saturday.

At least 26 units of fire service are working to take the fire under control, according to Md Shahjahan Shikder, media cell officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence.

Earlier, fire fighter Md Masud Ahmed of Palashi Fire Station told that 18 units started working at the beginning.

The fire fighters notified about the fire around 5:40am. As many as 12 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed.

The reason behind the fire could not be known immediately, he added.

Concerns regarding fire safety have been raised by similar accidents in Dhaka and other regions of the nation, with a large fire destroying the Bangabazar wholesale garment market on April 4.
