Ishraque holds meeting at city hall with ‘honourable mayor’ title on banner

BNP leader Engineer Ishraque Hossain, who had earlier declared that if the government did not arrange his oath-taking as the Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), he would organize his own ceremony with his supporters and residents, held a meeting at the City Hall on Monday (June 16).

This was Ishraque’s first meeting at the City Hall conference room, where a banner prominently displayed his name prefixed with the title "honourable mayor."

The meeting was arranged to facilitate a dialogue between Ishraque Hossain and the officials and employees of the DSCC Waste Management Department.

Organizers said the purpose was to ensure cleanliness and improve citizen services in Dhaka South.

Ishraque Hossain was the chief guest at the event. During the meeting, several individuals were seen presenting him with floral tributes and plaques.

Earlier, on Sunday, Ishraque announced that daily public services would continue under his supervision, although the main gate of the DSCC office would remain locked.

Meanwhile, his supporters gathered again in front of City Hall on Monday, demanding that Ishraque be officially handed over the responsibilities of the DSCC mayor.

Following the gathering, Ishraque arrived at City Hall after 11 a.m. and participated in the meeting with the Waste Management Department officials to discuss maintaining emergency services.

He is expected to brief the media later in the day about the meeting’s decisions and announce new plans.
