The "Motorcycle Movement Policy, 2023" is a draft policy that was created by a nine-member committee under the direction of Md Anisur Rahman, joint secretary of the road transport and highways division.
Its goals are to decrease motorcycle-related accidents, promote the use of scooters rather than sports bikes, and increase motorcycle user awareness.
The draft states that motorcyclists within of Dhaka and other cities are only permitted to go at a speed of 30 kilometre per hour. On highways, no one is allowed to ride in the passenger seat of a motorcycle. Motorcycles with less than 126 cc would be barred from moving on highways.
According to ministry officials, the draft is likely to receive approval from the ministry very soon.
Members of the committee include the police department, the road and highways department, the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), and Bangladesh University of Engineering Technology (BUET).
