A man was killed and at least 12 people were injured after multiple buses collided in Dhaka’s Norda area early Wednesday, triggering severe traffic congestion during the morning rush.
The accident took place around 6am when a bus operating on the Dhaka-Barisal route crashed into another bus from the same company in the Norda area, according to witnesses.
People at the scene said an Akash Paribahan bus hit another Akash Paribahan vehicle from behind, leaving one side of the bus badly damaged from the impact.
During the incident, a bus belonging to Islam Paribahan overturned onto the road divider.
Members of the Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence arrived at the scene after being informed about the crash and recovered the body of the deceased victim.
Several injured passengers were rushed to nearby hospitals, including Kurmitola General Hospital and Baridhara General Hospital, for treatment. Witnesses said some of the injured were in critical condition.
Police said efforts were underway to ease traffic movement in the area following the crash. Sub-Inspector Moudud of Badda Police Station said authorities were preparing to send the victim’s body to the morgue at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Road accidents involving public transport vehicles remain a recurring concern in Dhaka and other parts of Bangladesh, especially during early morning hours when highways and city entry points experience heavy bus movement.
