Flight Lieutenant Tawkir Islam Sagar, the pilot of the Bangladesh Air Force training aircraft that crashed in Uttara, Dhaka, has died while undergoing treatment at Kurmitola General Hospital (CMH), according to the Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR).
Earlier, the Fire Service and Civil Defence had reported that the pilot was rescued in critical condition from the crash site. Md. Shahjahan Sikder, the Fire Service`s media officer, told Ajker Patrika, “We rescued the pilot from the wreckage in a critical state and transferred him to CMH.”
The crash occurred around noon on Monday when an F-7 BGI training jet of the Bangladesh Air Force went down on the primary campus of Milestone School and College in the Diabari area of Uttara.
Brigadier General Mohammad Zahid Kamal, Director General of the Fire Service and Civil Defence, confirmed that 19 bodies have been recovered so far. “More than 50 people have also been rescued with injuries and sent to various hospitals,” he said.
He added that rescue operations are ongoing with joint efforts from the Fire Service, Army, Police, and other agencies. “We hope to complete the rescue efforts as soon as possible,” the DG said.
