Police use water cannons, sound grenades to disperse protesters

Police used water cannons and sound grenades to disperse protesters who had gathered in front of the National Press Club on Sunday, demanding that all candidates who appeared in the oral examination of the 18th Teacher Registration be awarded passing certificates.

The incident occurred around 11:30 AM after the protesters had blocked the road in the Press Club area for nearly an hour. Prior to the police intervention, the demonstration had significantly disrupted traffic in the vicinity.

According to police sources, approximately 83,000 candidates participated in the oral examination for the 18th Teacher Registration, out of which around 23,000 failed to pass. The protesters alleged that they were deliberately marked as unsuccessful and are now demanding that they be awarded certificates.

An official from the Ramna zone of Dhaka Metropolitan Police reported that the protesters began assembling in front of the Press Club at around 10:30 AM and blocked the road, causing severe traffic congestion.

To restore order, police deployed water cannons and sound grenades to disperse the crowd. Authorities clarified that no baton charges or physical assaults took place during the operation. Following the police action, the protesters scattered, and the traffic situation returned to normal.
