For the third consecutive day, government employees from various ministries and departments have staged protests against the newly approved "Public Service (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025."
Around 11 AM on Monday, workers gathered at the Badamtola area inside the Secretariat, arriving in processions from different ministries in line with their pre-announced program.
Protesters have labelled the ordinance as "repressive" and a "black law," demanding its immediate withdrawal.
They warned that demonstrations would continue if their demands are not met.
The movement is being led under the banner of the Bangladesh Secretariat Officers and Employees Coordination Council.
The protest began after the draft ordinance, amending the Public Service Act of 2018, was approved in a recent advisory council meeting of the interim government. It was officially enacted the following day.
According to the employees, the ordinance includes provisions that revive restrictive regulations from over four decades ago, which they claim contradict the Constitution.
Council President Md Badiul Kabir reaffirmed their stance, declaring that protests will persist until the ordinance is repealed.
