At least 10 people, including police members, were injured in a clash involving residents of four villages in Sylhet early Thursday.

According to witnesses and police, the violence broke out at Temukhi Point after an argument over seating arrangements at a street meeting.

Residents from Kumargaon, Sahebergaon, Nazirgaon and Charugao became involved.

The dispute first started between groups from Kumargaon and Sahebergaon over where teenagers would sit during the meeting.

Local people initially calmed the situation, but about an hour later the argument began again and quickly turned violent.
Tensions grew when residents of Nazirgaon supported the Kumargaon group, while people from Charugao joined those from Sahebergaon.

This led to a large clash, with both sides chasing each other and throwing bricks.

The violence continued for nearly one and a half hours and created fear in nearby areas.

Traffic on the Sylhet–Sunamganj Road was also disrupted.

Officer-in-Charge Shamsul Habib of Jalalabad Police Station said the clash was linked to issues of local dominance and happened late at night.

He added that police and army personnel later brought the situation under control.

Police and army members are currently deployed in the area to prevent further trouble.
