66 Indian nationals held in Khagrachhari over trespassing

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has detained 66 Indian nationals for allegedly infiltrating into Bangladesh through border points in Khagrachhari’s Matiranga and Panchari upazilas.

The detainees, who claimed to be residents of Gujarat, India, were apprehended on Wednesday from various locations in the two border areas.

Nazmun Ara Sultana, the acting deputy commissioner of Khagrachhari, confirmed the detentions.

According to district authorities, 15 individuals crossed into Bangladesh via the Taindong border in Matiranga, 27 through the Shantipur border in Gomti union, and 24 through the Rupsen Para border in Logang union of Panchari.

Among them, the group of 27 who entered through Shantipur were found staying at the residence of one Abul Master in the Hajipara area. BGB conducted the arrests following a tip-off from local residents.

As of now, BGB has not issued any official statement regarding the incident. Authorities are currently investigating the motive behind the mass infiltration.
