8 workers killed in truck–pickup collision in Sylhet

Eight people were killed in a head-on collision between a truck and a pickup van in South Surma, Sylhet.

The accident occurred around 6:00 a.m. on Sunday in the Telibazar area. All of the victims are believed to be construction workers, though their identities were not immediately known.

The information was confirmed by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police, Md. Monjurul Alam.

Officer-in-Charge of South Surma Police Station, Md. Ashraful, said that 10–12 workers were traveling in a pickup van from Sylhet to Sunamganj. Meanwhile, a jackfruit-laden truck was heading toward Sylhet from Chattogram. The two vehicles collided head-on in the Telibazar area.

According to police sources, four people died at the scene, and four more succumbed to their injuries after being taken to the hospital.

Md. Monjurul Alam said that among the deceased, six were men and two were women. The আহত victims were rescued and taken to Osmani Medical College Hospital, where four later died. Authorities are currently working to identify the victims.
