The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) handed over 14 Bangladeshi nationals, including women and children, to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) along the Satkhira border on Sunday evening.
The handover took place following a flag meeting between BGB and BSF near the zero point at Taluigachha border in Satkhira Sadar upazila. Later, the BGB turned them over to Satkhira Sadar Police Station the same night.
Among those repatriated were Mizanur Rahman Sheikh (38) of Morrelganj in Bagerhat, his wife Sharmin Akter (24), and their children Shamim and Ruma; Kabir Sheikh of Jhalakathi’s Zianagar upazila and his wife Tofura Khatun; and Kader Morol of Ashashuni, Satkhira.
According to Abul Kashem, commander of BGB’s Taluigachha BOP, the BSF detained the group in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal for illegally entering India. They were later handed over to BGB through Inspector Dibyajyoti Doly of the Amudia BSF Company.
Satkhira Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shaminul Haque said the 14 returnees were officially handed over to the police. After verifying their identities, some were released to their families on Sunday night, while others were reunited with relatives on Monday morning.
