A member of India’s Border Security Force (BSF) was detained on Wednesday morning (June 4) for allegedly crossing into Bangladesh illegally at the Jahurpur border in Narayanpur Union under Chapainawabganj Sadar Upazila.
According to local residents, the BSF soldier, identified as Shri Ganesh from Nurpur 71 BSF Camp in India, was seen herding cattle near Sub-pillar 5 of Main Pillar 19 in the Satrashia area.
While doing so, he reportedly entered Bangladesh territory and attempted to chase livestock, prompting locals to apprehend him.
The detained BSF member was subsequently handed over to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
Lieutenant Colonel Fahad Mahmud Rinku, commanding officer of BGB Battalion 53, confirmed the detention and stated that the handover process is currently underway. He also assured that the situation along the border remains calm and under control.
