A passenger bus caught fire after colliding with a motorcycle in the Board Bazar area of Gazipur on Friday morning, leaving the motorcyclist injured.

Hiron Mia, Station Officer of the Bhogra Modern Fire Service, said, The Dhaka-bound bus was travelling from Tangail when it reached the Board Bazar area at around 7:45am and collided head-on with a motorcycle.

As a result of the collision, the motorcycle fell under the bus and scraped along the road. The friction is believed to have sparked a fire, which quickly spread to the bus, he added.

Two units of the Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence rushed to the scene and managed to bring the blaze under control after nearly 45 minutes of effort, around 8:45am. Hiron Mia noted that the number of passengers on the bus was low and they were able to get off quickly.

The incident temporarily disrupted traffic on the busy road. With the assistance of police and local residents, the damaged bus was later removed, and normal traffic movement resumed.
