The EC Secretary said that the Election Commission held a meeting with various stakeholders after taking charge. They had a roadmap. The 26th Commission meeting regarding the 12th National Assembly Elections will be held today at 5 pm in continuation of all the decisions they took as per the roadmap for the 12th National Assembly Elections. According to the decision of this meeting, the Chief Election Commissioner will address a speech at 7 pm. In that speech, he will announce the full schedule of the 12th National Election.
The EC Secretary also said that Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Radio will broadcast the live. The media can broadcast directly from there.
Meanwhile, the EC does not want to take into account the ongoing heated situation between the political parties. According to the EC, even if the electoral environment is not favorable, they have no option to hold elections to protect the constitution. Several commissioners including the CEC have already announced that the schedule will be announced this week and the polling day will be fixed in the first week of January.
EC-affiliates say that the constitutional obligation requires the EC to hold elections within 90 days before January 29, 2024. The countdown to the national elections has also started from November 1. There is not much time left for the EC to announce the schedule.
