About six were injured in a clash between Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) men as soon as they placed wreaths at the Shaheed Minar in Jhenidah's Kaliganj upazila marking the International Mother Language Day.
BCL activist Erfan Reza and Al Amin, general secretary of Kaliganj union unit JCD, are among the injured.
BCL is the ruling party backed political student organization while JCD is the student wing of opposition BNP.
Police and witnesses claimed that around 7:30am, BCL members confronted JCD activists at the Shaheed Minar on the grounds of Government Mahtab Uddin College and began throwing brickbats at them. Police took the situation under control later.
While contacted, both the wing leaders alleged each-others as responsible for the incident.
Contacted, Kaliganj police station Officer-in-Charge Rahim Molla said he could not comment immediately as he was at a rally.
