The long-awaited Kalna Bridge, first six-lane bridge in Bangladesh, will be officially inaugurated on Monday morning in Narail, giving inhabitants of the nation's northwestern areas some much-needed relief.
The 690-meter bridge, popularly known as Madhumati Bridge, will be officially inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina via video conference.
According to Ashrafuzzaman, the Madhumati Bridge project manager and executive engineer for the Narail Department of Roads and Highways, the bridge is totally ready to go into full operation as soon as it is inaugurated.
Ashrafuzzaman said the country’s first six-lane bridge is a Nielsen-Lohse Arch type bridge.
The 690 meter long Madhumati Bridge, locally known as Kalna Bridge, has been constructed on the Madhumati River at a cost of Tk 960 crore funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). It connects Narail, Gopalganj, Khulna, Magura, Satkhira, Chuadanga, Jessore and Jhenaidah district.
