A Chattogram court is set to pronounce verdict in a corruption case filed against former Officer in Charge (OC) of Cox Bazar police station Pradeep Kumar Das and his wife Chumki Karon by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). Judge Munsi Abdul Majid of Chattogram special court will deliver the verdict.
On June 20, the ACC placed necessary information on amassing illegal properties by the accused. During the hearing, ACC lawyer Mahmudul Haque sought capital punishment for accused Pradeep and his wife Chumki.
“Concluding the trial argument court fixed Wednesday to deliver the verdict. Pradeep and Chumki are now behind the bars in Chattogram central jail,” Muhmudul Haque told media.
On August 23, 2020, the assistant director of ACC Chattogram integrated office Md. Riaz Uddin as the plaintiff filed a case against Pradeep and his wife Chumki for acquiring property through corruption. On July 26 last year, the ACC filed a charge sheet against Pradeep and Chumki in court. On December 15 of the same year, the court ordered the trial to begin by framing charges against the duo.
On July 31, 2020, a retired army Major Sinha Md. Rashed Khan was shot dead by the police at Baharchhara check post in Teknaf. Two people including Pradeep have been sentenced to death and six have been sentenced to life imprisonment in this murder case. The court gave this verdict on January 31.
