A residential medical officer at Panchagarh Modern Sadar Hospital has been suspended after allegedly behaving indecently with a relative of a child rape survivor. The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) issued the suspension order on Monday.
According to the order, the physician was temporarily removed from his government post for “misconduct” under the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018. He will receive subsistence allowance during the suspension period as per regulations.
Confirming the development, the Civil Surgeon of Panchagarh said the hospital has not yet appointed a permanent replacement for the suspended officer. The acting role is currently being handled by another doctor.
The incident drew widespread outrage after a video showing the physician’s alleged behaviour in the hospital’s female surgery ward on September 19 went viral on social media.
Public reaction intensified as the video circulated online, prompting authorities to take action. Health officials said they are working to ensure the hospital maintains public trust and service quality.
