Six day labourers have been killed in separate road accidents in Sirajganj and Chandpur respectively.
In Sirajganj, the victims were identified as Mukul Hossain, 34, Monir Hossain, 35, Mokbul Hossain, 35, Abdul Alim, 40, and Haider Ali, 41.
They died after a human hauler locally known as 'Laguna' collided head-on with a stone-laden truck in Salanga of Ullapara upazila.
The incident took place near Goja bridge in Ramarchar area of Hatikumrul-Bonpara highway at around 2 am on Thursday, said Hatikumrul Highway Police Station chief Lutfar Rahman.
The Laguna carrying farm labourers was on its way to Natore from Hatikumrul roundabout when it crashed with a truck coming from the opposite direction, Lutfar said.
The accident left four people dead on the spot and six others injured. Police later rescued the injured and sent them to different hospitals in Sirajganj and Rajshahi.
The bodies and the vehicles have been taken into police custody, Lutfar said.
In Chandpur, the victim is a 52-year-old man, who was killed as a truck ploughed into an eatery along the Chandpur-Cumilla highway on Wednesday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Md Khorshed Alam, a daily wager and a resident of Cumilla’s Nangalcourt upazila.
The accident occurred around 2pm in the district's Shahrashti upazila when the driver of the Cumilla-bound freight truck lost control of the vehicle during heavy showers.
"Khorshed was standing in front of the hotel. He was crushed to death under the wheels of the speeding truck," said Md Abdul Mannan, officer-in-charge of Shahrashti Model Police Station.
The body was later handed over to his family, the OC said.
