Four people, including a father and his son, lost their lives and seven others were injured after violent clashes broke out between two rival groups in Narail Sadar upazila early Monday.
Police said the violence erupted around dawn at Borkula village, where supporters of two local factions linked to former union chairman Khayer and another leader, Khalil, confronted each other over long-running dominance disputes.
The groups reportedly used homemade weapons during the fighting.
Those killed were identified as Rahman Khalil and his son Tahajjud Hossain, Ferdous Hossain from Khalil’s group, and Osibur Mia from the rival camp.
Three of the victims died on the spot, while Osibur Mia succumbed to his injuries after being taken to Narail District Hospital in critical condition.
Oli Mia, officer-in-charge of Narail Sadar Police Station, said the dispute between the two groups had been ongoing for a long time.
Additional police forces were deployed soon after the incident to bring the situation under control.
He said legal action would be taken against those involved as investigations continue.
