Health minister claims COVID situation under control

Health Minister Zahid Maleque has said COVID-19 situation in Bangladesh is under control as the government has taken massive multiple initiatives including nationwide vaccination programme.

"We have been able to vaccinate over 17 crore doses of vaccines....meaning a large segment of people received coronavirus jabs," he was addressing a function of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital in Dhaka.

The health minister said only 12 percent people in countries of African continent received coronavirus vaccine.

Bangladesh is expanding COVID-19 vaccination campaign including booster dose to combat the spread of the deadly virus, he added. 

Bangladesh in the last 24 hours till Monday morning reported 4,692 Covid-19 new cases while the coronavirus claimed overnight 19 lives. 

The official tally showed that the virus killed 28,838 people and infected 19,14,356 so far.
