Officer in Charge (OC) ASM Asaduzzaman of Bhanga Highway Police station said, he issued the letter to inform that the highway police won’t take any bribes or extortion from highways anymore.
Asked about the speech Asaduzzaman said, “Through this letter, I wanted to mean that the highway police won’t extort on the highway. If any of our officials are involved in extortion, we won’t officially take the responsibility. However, the letter might lack linguistic accuracy. I beg apology for that.”
Superintendent of Madaripur Highway Police circle Mostafizur Rahman said, “TI Asaduzzaman recently took office. He doesn’t have jurisdiction to hold such a press conference. Even, he doesn’t have any experience. He did a mistake unknowingly.”
Mostafizur Rahman also sought pardon over the issue.
Earlier on Thursday, Asaduzzaman said, “Allegations have been found against many previous OCs to take bribe or monthly extortion from different modes of vehicles. From now on, we are declaring such affairs closed,”
During a ‘view-exchange meeting’ Asaduzzaman upheld a written speech where he said, “If any official of this police station is found involved in extortion, s/he has to take its liability. I am vowing to stop extortion at highways. However, the drive will continue against the reckless, unfit and unlicensed vehicles along with motorbikes without helmets and two pillions (if any) and illegal three-wheelers.”
“If anyone except the highway police official extorts on the highway, the department won’t take responsibility,” he furthered.
