Police election training to begin in August: Home adviser

The government will begin training police personnel for the upcoming national elections starting in August, according to Home Affairs Adviser Lt. Gen.

Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.). He made the remarks on Monday while addressing journalists following a meeting of the Core Committee on Law and Order.

“The election-related training will be launched in phases starting from early August and will continue until the polls,” said the adviser.

In response to a question about the possible transfer of Superintendents of Police (SPs) and Officers-in-Charge (OCs) ahead of the elections, the adviser noted that such transfers are part of an ongoing process.

“Transfers are happening from time to time. If any transfers take place before the elections, that will also be visible to you,” he added.

When asked about the nationwide crackdown on extortion, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury firmly stated, “There will be no leniency for extortionists, regardless of their political affiliation or influence. Did we spare anyone in the recent extortion cases in Gulshan? No one was spared and no one will be.”

On the issue of narcotics, the adviser said that while drug couriers are being apprehended, the kingpins or “godfathers” often remain hidden.

“A special operation targeting the masterminds behind the drug trade will begin soon,” he said.
