Nasiruddin Patwari, the chief coordinator of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP), has raised questions over the infamous 10-truck arms haul case, saying, “If you couldn’t even handle the weapons, why were you bringing them in the first place?”
Speaking at a roadside rally organized as part of the NCP’s “July March to Build the Nation” program in the old Collectorate ground at Moktarpara, Netrokona on Sunday, July 27, Patwari said, “Bangladesh has witnessed countless murders and incidents, but the 10-truck arms case was one of the biggest. This arms conspiracy in South Asia posed a serious threat to Bangladesh’s sovereignty and endangered countless lives.”
Referring to former state minister for home Lutfozzaman Babar, he stated, “I respect Babar Bhai as a leader who faced persecution, but I cannot support that action. Because of it, BNP failed to return to power. As a result, a killer-fascist like Hasina came to power, and for the past 15 years, BNP leaders and activists have suffered brutal persecution, killings, and shootings. For this, you too will stand accused in the court of history. We want peace, not unrest in Bangladesh. We want people’s rights and human dignity.”
Highlighting the need for constitutional reform, Patwari said, “Those who hold judicial, parliamentary, and executive powers—this is why we demanded proportional representation (PR) for the upper house to maintain a power balance. But those who want to cling to a fascist structure are trying to deceive the people. Stay united on the streets. The people of Bangladesh will return home only with a new constitution, reforms, and a ticket to Hasina’s trial, Insha’Allah.”
He further added, “We demand justice for the BDR massacre, the Shapla Square killings, and the disappearances and murders of countless BNP-Jamaat leaders and activists. Those who implemented India’s agenda by oppressing Muslims, labeling Islamic scholars as militants, and persecuting hill people must face justice.”
The event was attended by NCP convener Nahid Islam, senior joint member-secretary Tasnim Zara, central organizer (North) Pritom Sohag, and central member Fahim Khan Pathan, among others. Chief organizers for the southern and northern regions, Hasnat Abdullah and Sarjis Alam, were also present but did not address the rally. After the event, NCP central leaders left for Sherpur.
