Some eight workers of a chemical factory sustained burn injuries after a fire broke out in the establishment in Roopganj upazila of Narayanganj on Tuesday night, reports The Daily Star.
The injured are Bayazid, Rokon, Khademul, Sajib, Ripon, Mehedi, Rasel, and Akalu, confirmed Tanharul Islam, deputy assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defence of Narayanganj-2.
They were later taken to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka.
The fire broke out at Lily Chemical Co. in Golakandail area in the upazila around 10 last night. Fire service received the news around 10:22pm, Tanharul said adding that three units rushed to the spot and managed to bring it under control around midnight.
The injured had been rescued and sent to Dhaka by their co-workers before the firefighters arrived, he added.
"According to the others workers, the injuries of the eight victims are not serious," the official also said.
However, the reason behind the onset and extent of damage of the fire were yet to be known. Details will be revealed after investigation, he added.
