Police recovered the hanging body of a student, Jannat Ara Rumi, from a girls’ hostel in the Hazaribagh area of the capital early Thursday.
The body was found on the fifth floor of Jannati Girls’ Hostel, located near Zigatala old Kacha Bazar Road, under Hazaribagh Police Station. After recovery, the body was sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) morgue for post-mortem examination.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Hazaribagh Police Station, Saiful Islam, confirmed the incident and said the deceased was involved in political activities of the National Citizen Party (NCP).
Police said Jannat Ara Rumi was serving as the joint coordinator of the Dhaka Metropolitan South (Dhanmondi thana) coordination committee of the NCP.
According to police, preliminary findings suggest that she may have died by suicide. Police also mentioned that she had been under mental stress due to family-related issues.
Further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of death.
